Shades disc for [redacted] - Bridge to Bridge

This disc consists of music from two west coast cities that is close to my heart. On two different west coasts. One is Gothenburg in Sweden, where I am from, the second being San Francisco in the US, where I live. They are far apart, but I wanted to combine them into a musical journey. There are a lot of good music from both places, so I had to collect them and put them on one disc. There are some different genres: Metal, Synthwave, Pop, Rock, Electronica, etc. I will do one GBG artist and then an SFO artist, so it's every other song.

  1. Heartbeats - José González
    • This song is originally done by The Knife (also a Gothenburg artist), but the music video is recorded in SF, so it combines the cities nicely and is the slow slart of this collection.
  2. Kites - Geographer
    • Geographer aka Mike Deni started creating music that would become his first album when he found a synthesizer on the street.
  3. Pass This On - The Knife
    • Fun fact, this band, consisting of the siblings Dreijer, were my neighbors when I grew up.
  4. In Blur - Deafheaven
    • Deafheaven is considered being a blackgaze band (black metal and shoegazing mix), but this song is from their latest album and it's much softer than their usual stuff. The band started in SF, but they are now living in LA.
  5. Cotton Skies - Westkust
    • This is a pretty new shoegazing band from Gbg, they have released two full length albums.
  6. Ease - Whirr
    • These guys also play shoegaze. The lead guitarist Nick Bassett played in the original line up of Deafheaven.
  7. Sister Surround - The Soundtrack Of Our Lives
    • The lead singer Ebbot always plays in a kaftan and he's a well known singer in the Swedish music scene.
  8. Red Eyes And Tears - Black Rebel Motorcycle Club
    • This three piece takes their name from the motorcycle club in 1953 film The Wild One with Marlon Brando.
  9. Shoreline - Broder Daniel
    • Broder Daniel was a huge band in the Swedish indie scene around Y2K and this song is their most famous one. On festivals in Sweden, it has become a tradition to shout “Play Shoreline”, regardless of what band is on stage.
  10. Father of All… - Green Day
    • Green Day have a coffee company: Oakland Coffee.
  11. Fight Song - Sister Sin
    • Sister sin is a women fronted metal band that managed to get this song into a couple of TV series like Peacemaker and Cobra Kai.
  12. Welcome Home (Sanitarium) - Metallica
    • This band doesn't need much introduction. They were founded in LA, but didn't get big until they relocated to the Bay Area and found Cliff Burton and Kirk Hammett. They are big SF Giants fans and there's a Metallica themed game every year.
  13. Cloud Connected - In Flames
    • In Flames is one of the 3 founders of Gothenburg Melodic Death Metal (Melodeath). The other ones being At The Gates and Dark Tranquillity.
  14. Awake - Tycho
    • Tycho started out as a one man band only playing with synthesizers, now it's a 5 piece band playing most of the instruments live on stage.
  15. Forget About You - Sally Shapiro
    • This band is doing Italodisco inspired pop.
  16. Running in the Night - FM-84
    • FM-84 is the pseudonym of Col Bennet, a scotsman, who started his career in synthwave while living in SF. This song is featuring Ollie Wride.
  17. What's That Perfume That You Wear? - Jens Lekman
  18. Don't Stop Believin' - Journey
